Forgiveness is a decision to let go of resentments and thoughts of revenge. It is an act of unloosing yourself from thoughts and feelings that restrain you to the offense committed against you.

Nearly everyone has been hurt by the actions or words of someone. It could be anything, maybe:

Someone bullied you.

Your partner left you.

People called you names.

Your partner had an affair.

Your parents criticized you.

Your loved one was abused.

Friends gossiped about you.

You were publicly humiliated.

Your loved one was murdered.

Somebody said lies about you.

Etc.

These events usually leave you with feelings of bitterness, anger and even revenge. If you don’t embrace forgiveness, you will destroy yourself with these feelings. By embracing forgiveness, you embrace peace, hope, gratitude and joy. Forgiveness will help you to reduce the intensity of these feelings so that you can feel free, healthier and happier in the present.

Forgiving someone doesn’t mean you have forgotten what happened, it doesn’t even mean you are condoning what the other party or person has done, only that, you are just letting go of toxic feelings and emotions. Forgiveness does not mean that you have to reconcile with someone who badly treated you, or live with them or even eat with them or proving that you’ve forgiven them. Not at all! It’s your own choice and yours alone to make.

To withhold forgiveness is to choose to continue to remain the victim. You always have a choice. When you forgive you do it for you, not for the other person. The person you have never forgiven. . . controls you! To forgive is to set the prisoner free, and that prisoner is you!

Unforgiveness can cause serious health problems, such as high blood pressure, that can lead to disabilities, etc.

Forgiveness is a journey and you might need to do it everyday, until you feel free and uncontrolled from those thoughts. With forgiveness, you can remember the event, but those thoughts will never have an effect whatsoever to bring you back to bondage. You will think and remember, but because you’ve already forgiven, you will remember with total peace in your heart.

If you’ve been hurt, don’t worry, you are not the only one! Billions of people on earth have been hurt before. I encourage you to set yourself free from the captivity of unforgiving. Yes, people might be so cruel, but you owe it to yourself to set yourself free. It’s a wise choice! With forgiveness, the sooner you do it the better.
