You have heard that people don’t want to be told the truth. In most cases, when people are told about their behaviour, they become angry, defensive, they make excuses and try to justify their actions. They can even fight you for exposing their weaknesses.
Hitler during World War 2 was known for punishing bearers of bad news. It came to a point that the messengers ended up telling him what he wanted to hear. If not, they will get shot. So he lost the war……and we should be glad it occurred that way.
We must be willing to acknowledge the feedback we receive from other people, whether it’s good or bad. If you deny it, how can you change and become better? No one is perfect; so if we are told that there is something wrong with us, we should embrace it with all of our heart and look for ways to change. Feedback is important; it’s part of evaluating our life progress and for us to see how far we have come.
Don’t shoot the messenger; they’re conveyors of feedback. Your job is to hear what they have to say. Maybe it’s not true, but don’t rush to dismiss it off or begrudging them for telling you the unpleasant words.
In most situations, people tell the truth about how we behave; take note and make changes. Don’t shoot the messenger!
