The Company You Keep

learning from experts The Company You KeepThe key to success in any area of your life is to surround yourself with those people that have succeeded before you. These guys have already followed successful steps and have already cultivated successful habits to get to where they are. Needless to say, they have the experience and testimonials to help you succeed in life.

If you want to succeed financially, I don’t think its wise to hang around broke people and take financial advice from them. That will be a disaster! If you want your marriage to succeed (for those who are married), it’s not wise to seek advice from those who haven’t been married. If you want to be a successful lawyer, hang around successful lawyers. Whatever area of life you want to succeed in, learn from those who have already achieved success!

My point is, Learn from the experts! They know what to do and have the necessary experience to help you succeed. If you want to be a successful student, spend time reading the right books within your particular field of study, instead of wasting time reading lots of fictional books. If you spend your whole evening watching telly, you will be robbing yourself of time to learn. If you want to succeed, sacrifice some television programmes and use that time to educate yourself.

It is said,

You Become The Company You Keep!

Watch out who you hang out with. We all have friends that are always into some kind of dramas, always complaining, whining, criticising or can’t stay out of trouble. There comes a time when you need to disassociate yourself from them. Love them from a distance if you can. If not, they will drag you down to their level and in the process kill your reputation.

They say;

Bad Company Corrupts Good Character,

Choose your friends, mentors and teachers carefully. Surround yourself with man, women and books that will empower and motivate you to succeed in life. You are born to succeed, but it’s a journey you have to embark on wisely. This means hanging around and learning from the right people and reading the right books!

You will be in five years the sum total of the books you read and the people you associate yourself with – Charlie Jones

    How true that you are judged by the company you keep, there is a well known saying that says "If you lie down with dogs you wake up contamined with fleas", Some times you don't notice how much you have been corrupted by the wrong company until you are lying in the mud like a pig.

    Bad company seduces you and blinds you so l am grateful for the lessons about life you are sending out there
  • Thank you Cathy for your comment. I hope we all take lessons and examine our lives to see if we are not corrupting or being corrupted by those around us.

    Hi Simon

    Thank you for this post. Found it encouraging and it triggered a few memories. I agree with you all the way Simon. Bad company corrupts good character.

    My daughter changed her behaviour suddenly, she became disobedient, her school grades became poor and was using wrong words. I got complaints from school, and so forth. I said to myself, "she is not hereself, something has happened!", and you know what? Something was happening!

    She had gooten herself involved with some girls who thought they were cool. These girls were rude and came from families where parents are not bothered about the behaviors of their kids.

    I quickly put a stop to it and she changed again. I got my daughter back.

    So, yes, Bad comapay corrupts good character!
